Since the start of his legal career, Robert R. Berman has been dedicated to providing high-quality legal services to serve the special needs of his clients. Bob specializes in Family Law Advocacy, with an emphasis on Property Equalization and Income Quantification disputes. For over 25 years, Bob has been involved in winning and resolving complex Family Law disputes. He has a reputation for achieving excellent results for his clients.
Bob graduated with a combined Bachelor of Civil and Common Law Degree from McGill University and was called to the Ontario Bar in 1979. In addition, Bob has successfully completed the Harvard Mediation Workshop, the Canadian Dispute Resolution Corporation's Commercial Mediation Training Program, and the Arbitration Course at the Arbitration and Mediation Institution of Ontario Incorporated.
Bob is a past instructor of Family Law for the Bar Admission Course.
Michelle Roy, B.A. (Hons), LL.B., M.Phil
Michelle Roy is a junior associate with Berman Barristers. She practices in all aspects of Family Law. Michelle was called to the Ontario Bar in 2002. She returns to us after practicing Family Law at a prominent full service law firm in Toronto.
Michelle received her B.A. (Hons) from Queen's University in 1998 in English Literature and Criminology and her LL.B. from Dalhousie University in 2002. While in law school, Michelle was awarded the Honourable Angus L. MacDonald Prize in recognition of achieving the highest standing in Tort Law and Damage Compensation as well as the Keyser Mason Ball Note and Comment Prize for her paper published in the Dalhousie Journal of Legal Studies.
After achieving her Masters degree in Criminology from Cambridge University, England, where she focused on violence against women issues, Michelle hopes to develop a specialization in representing victims of domestic violence.
Heather Mercer - Law Clerk
Heather has been involved in the legal profession since 1979 when she graduated from LaSalle College in Montreal, Quebec as a Legal Assistant. Heather received her Law Clerk Diploma from Sheraton College in 1995.
Over the years, Heather has worked at several prominent law firms in Toronto and Mississauga and has worked with several prominent lawyers including the Honourable Mr. Justice John I. Laskin.
Heather has worked exclusively in the area of family law since 1998. She joined Berman Barristers in 2001. Heather has been actively involved in all aspects of managing client files, including preparing financial documents, drafting court documents/pleadings and helping clients navigate the ups and downs of dealing with their family law situation. Heather’s strong interpersonal and management skills are an invaluable asset to the Berman Barristers’ team.
